Over the course of many years, many changes were made on the 356.

On the right is a 1500 powerplant with 55hp and two Solex 32 carburetors.

Where as the engine on the left was the most highly developed pushrod engine with 95 hp and a pair of Solex 44 mm two-barrel carburetors installed in a 356 SC. The complex and potent Carrera engine with its gear driven camshafts was  exotic.

Body variations have significant cockpit differences. Dashboards with more or less the configuration of this cream-colored example were used in Stuttgart 356s up to the introduction of the "A" in 1955.
356 Speedster InteriorThe arrangement of the gauges in an arc were reserved for the Speedster (as of 1955), Convertible "D", and roadster variants.
356 1964SC InteriorThe third instrument collection (belonging to a 1964 SC), with minor modifications over the years, was used by coupes and cabriolets as of the "A" models.
